Any day now...

I'm going to update my other blog, I swear. I have poetry written, dated and all, and every time I think about updating, I've lost it :( Tomorrow, I promise. But for now, here's something for this blog. For those of you who don't like snakes, don't click here. This is the newest spa trend, and I think it's one I'll be passing on. But hey, whatever makes you happy.

Yes, that's right...snake massages. They drop you in a pile of these fellas and just let them slip and slide their way all over you until you're nice and relaxed. As if.

This Week's Obsession

Right now, I'm obsessing over Fred Flare's website. I know, I know, there are PLENTY of other things that I should be doing right now. But it's raining and blah outside, so I'm struggling to focus. And what better way to stave off boredom than by shopping online, right?

I <3 Peanuts! And these scarves are perfect for fall and winter. Love them!

C'mon, bacon floss? Clearly a necessity!

Need help finding your way around Brooklyn? Here's a cute way to figure out how to get where you need to be.

A do it yourself ice sculpture?! Isn't that the same thing as an ice cube tray shaped like a large swan? Either way, I love it.

They had so many other amazing things! Check it out for yourself here. I love Fred Flare!!!

Anyone Interested?

So on Sunday, Ft. Tryon Park is having a Medieval Festival from 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM. Anyone want to go? If you are, more details can be found here. Enjoy!

Falling in Love with Autumn

Fall is perhaps my favorite season. Don't get me wrong, I love summer (mostly because of vacations), winter (for holidays and snow) and spring (not for the cleaning), but there's something about autumn. The changing of the leaves, the crisp chill in the air...it's a little bit magical. And for those of us who are caffeine addicts, there's another reason to appreciate fall, too. Can you say pumpkin spice lattes, anyone?

Yes, it's time to make the switch back to hot beverages, including Starbucks' latest trend, along with hot tea, cocoa, and apple cider. Time to get a nice snuggly coat and wool blanket, maybe light the fireplace if you have one. And it's time to start planning your Halloween costume. I can't wait!

MMMM Cake

When I was about 10 years old, my mother passed this down to me. Let me tell you, this book is amazing. Not only does it have a ton of kid-friendly recipes, it also has the coolest ideas for turning a meal, or dessert, into a work of art.

Dog Salad - isn't it cute?

Here is my all-time favorite recipe from that book. The castle cake. MMMM. I never tried to make it, for fear that I would mess it up and it would be ugly as sin, but for real, I love this cake. With ice cream cone turrets, chocolate windows and doors, and frosting all over, it's absolutely perfect!

Perks of Being a New Yorker

One of the greatest things about living in New York is the live music scene. Any night of the week, you can see an abundance of amazing local bands for a few dollars (perfect for those of us on a budget that doesn't allow for hundreds to spend on concert tickets). Here are a few pictures of some awesome bands at Fontana's this past Thursday.

Old Mill

I was introduced to Old Mill by a good friend, and they are very talented. If you're going to be in the NYC area, or just want to look them up on myspace, I would highly recommend it.

The Vanguard

The guys from The Vanguard wore the tightest pants ever (I mean, we're talking tighter than the Butcher's red pants from The Academy Is...) but they were still pretty good. Kind of reminded me of the Killers...

Anyway, if you're ever looking for some incredible live music in the city, check out this site. And for free shows in the city, check out this site. Enjoy!

To Louis!

Where is our pizza and beer?

Best wishes (once we get our pizza and beer),

Me

I'm just saying...

...doesn't Ryan Ross look like he belongs in the Newsies?

Panic at the Newsstand, anyone?

Overheard in NY

Last night I was at Columbus Circle, waiting to cross the street, and I heard the most hilarious conversation between an old British man and a young British man. Here's how it went:

Old British Man: I forgot. Now there's a phrase that I picked up in America.
Young British Man: What is?
Old British Man: I forgot.
Young British Man: Oh.
Old British Man: Would you like to know what other American phrase I picked up?
Young British Man: All right.
Old British Man: I forget.

Very Abbott and Costello. I was highly amused.

And in case you're interested in reading about what other people in NYC have overheard, you should check out this website.

Jellio's

I have a lot of fond memories from my childhood...mostly involving My Little Ponies, Jem and the Holograms, Lite Brite and, of course, candy! So I was super excited when in the course of my web wanderings, I found Jellio's website. They have all sorts of great products, from Gummi Bear lamps to candy button benches, cap gun mirrors to Rubik's cube tables. Check out some of my favorite items:

Candy button bench - so cute!

Lite Brite Table brings back childhood memories.

Ooh la la! A cupcake chair.

Barrel of Monkeys mirrors - so much fun!

These are absolutely adorable! I want one!

Feel free to check out more of the line on their website by clicking here.
